The Wolf is a Carnivorous MAMMAL,
related to the JACKAL and DOG.
Three wolf species are generally
recognised, the grey wolf, the red wolf and
the prairie wolf, or more commonly known as
the COYOTE. The grey wolf, also called timber
wolf in north america, resembles a
GERMAN_SHEPHERD, with a shaggy coat,pointed
ears and a bushy tail, the male wolf usually
grows to a maximum of 3ft (90cm) high at the
shoulder and weighs about 45kg (7st).
Wolves were once common all over Britain.
In the 16th Century Scaotland suffered a
"Wolf Plague". The last Scottish wolf was
hunted down and killed in 1743.
